Developing Story

[UPDATE]: After speaking to the manager it has been confirmed that while our dear El J got stuck with a big ole fine, they are still serving alcohol for the foreseeable future!  So quick–go grab a marg (or a dozen) before ABC strikes again.

[UPDATE]: There might be hope for El J! According to a recent phone call to the restaurant, they are still serving alcohol. We’ll keep you updated as more news comes in…

If you haven’t heard already, El Jaripeo, home to some of our favorite margaritas, reportedly lost their liquor license after an ABC raid. Fakes were popped and souls were lost, as jumbo margaritas slipped out of customers’ hands.

I’m extremely disappointed, as I feel most C’villians are, as I will no longer be able to get a marg that’s as big as my head (because obviously, that’s all that matters in life). However, we all could take this opportunity to mourn the loss of the once tequila-filled restaurant, and focus on other establishments that mix up the best margaritas in town.

So, we need your help in finding and drinking the best (and worst) margaritas, from dorm rooms to Más Tapas, 14th to Water St. You can limit your choices and take our poll—but, drop us some comments with your suggestions and favorite margs in Charlottesville.

And don’t forget to take a shot for our friends at El Jaripeo…
